The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is one of the most trusted universities in India, offering numerous programs in distance and online modes. Established under the Parliament Act, 1985, the reputed university is a pioneer in providing affordable industry-level education across 25+ countries. With the goal of increasing the GER ratio through flexible higher education accessible to all, IGNOU’s COE (Center for Online Education) was founded in June 2019.

IGNOU follows a simple admission process for its online and distance learning programs. The reputed ODL university follows two admission cycles: January & June for its programs. Students need to follow these steps for a hassle-free process by visiting IGNOU’s official admission portal:

Step 1: Registration:

• Fill in basic details, Aadhar mobile number, and email
• Create/link APAAR & ABC ID
• Verify email and mobile number
• Create a user ID for further processing

Step 2: Admission Form:

• Log in using your user ID
• Choose your preferred program
• Fill in personal, academic, and other required details

Step 3: Upload Documents:

You need to upload the following documents:

• Identity proof: Aadhar, PAN
• Academic: 10th, 12th, and bachelor marksheet (required for master & higher degrees)
• Scanned photos & signature
• Domicile, Caste, Income, & PwD for reserved categories

Step 3: Payment:

• Pay your annual program fee
• You can choose multiple payment options, such as Netbanking, UPI, Credit/Debit Card, and Bank Transfer, for fee payments.

Step 4: Admission Confirmation:

You will receive admission confirmation details and access to the IGNOU Samarth portal for regular updates on your course via registered email and mobile numbers.

IGNOU ODL and COE programs offer an interactive LMS portal for a seamless learning process and downloadable study materials. It offers some advantages for distance and online students:

• Self-paced Learning: IGNOU's dedicated Samarth portal with 24/7 access to program details, digital resources, study materials, educational radio and television channels, recorded lectures, and podcasts for a seamless learning experience.
• E-Gyankosh: Access to India’s extensive digital library to browse and download e-books, assessments, question papers, and video lectures tailored for IGNOU ODL.
• Free Access to Swayam Plus: Exclusive professional certification program in AI, tech, and marketing from top organizations, including IBM, KPMG, ZScaler, and Internashala.
• Swayam Prabha: Dedicated DTH & FM channels to learn different concepts of programs from anywhere at the student’s preferred pace.

IGNOU conducts term-end examinations (TEE) and assessments to measure the learning capabilities of students. The exam patterns are as follows:

• Assessment: Students need to submit a handwritten physical assignment for each subject in their pre-assigned study center or online portal. With a weightage of 30%, these assessments include subjective questions and case studies.
• Term End Examination: IGNOU conducts Dec & Jan TEE for students with theoretical and practical (for a few programs only), with a weightage of 70%.

Additionally, IGNOU allows students to choose their preferred exam centers as per the schedule assigned by the university.
